Nicole Barretta Named BIG EAST Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK - After leading Temple to its first BIG EAST win of the year on April 11, freshman Nicole Barretta has been named the BIG EAST Lacrosse Rookie of the Week. The honor is the first for Barretta, and is the Owls' fourth weekly award of the season.

Against Marquette, Barretta had three goals, two assists and two draw controls. She scored the go-ahead goal (3-2) at the 13:07 mark in the first half and Temple never trailed again in the win over the Golden Eagles.

Temple is back in action on Wednesday, April 15 in its final home game of the season, a 3:00 p.m. contest against Villanova.

BIG EAST Attacker Of The Week 
Amanda Lockwood, Vanderbilt, Jr.
Lockwood sparked a Vanderbilt offense which led to a pair of wins last week at Cincinnati and against Connecticut. The junior totaled seven goals, one assists and four draw controls in the 2-0 week. In the 10-9 overtime win over the Huskies, Lockwood had five points off four goals and an assist, with her helper coming on the game-winning double-overtime score with 50 seconds remaining. She scored three of Vandy's final six goals of the game, rallying from a four-goal deficit for the BIG EAST win.
 
BIG EAST Midfielder Of The Week 
Shannon Gilroy, Florida, Sr.
The national points leader had 11 points in another 2-0 week for the Gators, totaling eight goals and three assists in wins over Marquette and Villanova. Gilroy scored four goals in each game while also stuffing the stat sheet in the win over the Wildcats with five ground balls, six draw controls and five caused turnovers in just over one half on the field. Following last week's games, Gilroy moved to 13th all-time in NCAA history with 238 career goals, while her 76 points in 2015 are most among all Division I players. 
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The Week 
Maddy Fisher, Georgetown, So., GK
Fisher anchored a Georgetown defense which led the Hoyas to their first set of back-to-back wins of the season last week. In over 110 minutes in the cage, the sophomore goalkeeper boasted a .619 save percentage, stopping 13 shots in victories over Villanova and Cincinnati. Fisher surrendered just eight goals over the two-game span for a 4.35 goals against average in a pair of key BIG EAST victories.
 
BIG EAST Rookie Of The Week

Barretta led the Owls to their first BIG EAST win of the year, an 11-7 home win over Marquette on Saturday. Against the Golden Eagles, the Temple rookie had three goals, two assists and two draw controls. Barretta scored the go-ahead goal (3-2) at the 13:07 mark in the first half and Temple never trailed again.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
Alyson Fazio, Connecticut, Jr., M
In a 1-1 week for the Huskies, Fazio totaled six points on four goals and two assists. The junior midfielder added three ground balls and two draw controls. Fazio scored the first two goals in the home win over Temple as UConn led wire-to-wire. 
Maddie Kratz, Vanderbilt, Sr., GK
Kratz went 2-0 in the cage for the Commodores, owning a .541 save percentage in victories over Cincinnati and Connecticut. In the 10-9 overtime win over the Huskies, the senior goalie made 11 saves. Kratz boasted an 8.10 goals against average with 20 total saves in 126 minutes in the net.
Caroline Tarzian, Georgetown, Sr., A
Tarzian led the Georgetown offense with four goals, three assists, five ground balls and five draw controls in wins over Villanova and Cincinnati. The senior had an impressive all-around game in the 9-5 win at Nova, totaling two goals, two assists, four ground balls and four draw controls.
