Countdown to Spring Game - Four Days

4.21.15 | Football

PHILADELPHIA -- The Owls practiced today, wrapping up their 13th of 15 spring practices.

The next practice will take place on Thursday, April 23. The annual Cherry & White Game will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, on Chodoff Field at Edberg Olson Hall.

The Cherry & White game will pit the Temple offense against Temple's defense in game situations with a point system to determine the overall winner. Said head coach Matt Rhule, "We have a lot of guys banged up. This way we will be able to roll guys, and keep guys fresh, make sure we don't have any more injuries."

Said offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield about this year's approach, "Last year was tough because we were split up and it was kind of a smorgasbord of humans. This year we should have the full complement of guys that have been practicing this spring. The continuity of the first team – P.J. is going to get to throw to the receivers that he's been throwing to all spring, the O-line is going to be blocking with the guys they've been with all spring…This spring I expect it to be a lot cleaner and expectations a lot higher than last year because it's not an exhibition game where the teams have been drafted with no philosophical view whatsoever."

Defensive coordinator Phil Snow talked about what he expects from his side of the ball, "We don't care whether a player is a walk on, a fifth year senior, a scholarship guy – if we coach you we expect you to play one way. We have a players/coaches oath: We talk about how hard, how physical and knowing your assignment, which doesn't take any physical abilities….We ask three things: Do what you're supposed to do, play fast, and be physical."

The Cherry & White game will be part of Alumni Weekend on the campus of Temple University. Fans will have the opportunity to declare their allegiance by choosing Team Cherry or Team White. Fans of each team can display their allegiance by wearing a free t-shirt given to the first 500 fans of each team. At the end of the game, the winning team's fans will get a special prize.
