Megan Tiernan Named BIG EAST Lacrosse Midfielder of the Week

NEW YORK - In the final weekly awards of the 2015 season, Temple junior Megan Tiernan has been named the BIG EAST Conference Midfielder of the Week after her impressive performance in the Owls' game at Georgetown.Â
The game was ultimately a narrow, one-goal loss for the Owls by a score of 13-12 against the co-BIG EAST champion, but Tiernan put up career numbers in the contest. She scored six goals on eight shots, and also recorded two assists for eight total points. Tiernan also tallied three ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control.
Tiernan's performance led her to finish as the team's second-leading scorer with 19 goals in the 2015 season. Twin sister Nicole led the Owls with 35 goals. Temple finished the season at 10-6, a reversal of its record from 2014. The Owls took sixth place in the BIG EAST, missing out on the four-team BIG EAST Tournament set for April 30-May 2.

Finkleston led the offensive effort which helped UConn clinch a spot in the BIG EAST Championship for the third straight season. The Huskies needed to win at Villanova on Saturday for their season to continue, and Finkleston's five goals and two assists made that happen. The junior added a ground ball in UConn's 14-11 victory over the Wildcats, clinching the No. 3 seed in this week's league tournament.

Tiernan totaled a league-high eight points last week in a narrow setback at Georgetown. The junior had a BIG EAST-best six goals, while her two assists were second-most last week among all Conference players. Tiernan's final goal with just over a minute remaining got the Owls within one before falling 13-12 to the regular-season champion Hoyas. Tiernan also added three ground balls, a draw control and caused turnover.

BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The WeekÂ
Elizabeth Goslee, Marquette, Jr., D
Goslee anchored a Marquette defense which held Cincinnati to just seven goals, leading the Golden Eagles' to a season-finale win over the Bearcats. The junior was credited with two ground balls, three caused turnovers and a draw control in Marquette's 8-7 victory.

Grace Nolan, Connecticut, Fr., A
Nolan snags her fifth Rookie of the Week nod following a four-point showing in UConn's season-extending win at Villanova on Saturday. The rookie totaled three assists and a goal, along with two ground balls and a draw control. The win clinched the No. 3 seed for Connecticut in the BIG EAST Championship.

Bandos totaled five points on four goals and an assist, adding three draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover in the Hoyas' 13-12 come-from-behind win over Temple. The junior scored back-to-back goals midway through the second period to complete the Hoyas' comeback after trailing by as many as five.

Froccaro set a Villanova record with 12 draw controls against UConn on Saturday, adding four goals and three ground balls. The Wildcats are the No. 4 seed in this week's BIG EAST Championship, earning a postseason bid for the first time.

In the Bearcats' season finale against Marquette, Tunnell totaled four goals on four shots while adding a ground ball.
