Nicole Tiernan Named to BIG EAST Lacrosse First Team

NEW YORK - For a second year in a row, Temple's Nicole Tiernan has been honored by the head coaches in the BIG EAST Conference, this time with selection to the 2015 BIG EAST First Team. Tiernan, a junior midfielder, was a BIG EAST Second Team honoree a year ago.
The conference postseason honor is the third such honor of Tiernan's career, as she was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2013. She is one of 17 student-athletes named to this year's first team, with another 17 earning second team honors. Tiernan led the Owls with 35 goals and 38 total points in her junior season, ranking fourth in the conference with 2.19 goals per game. She ranked second on the team in draw controls with 36, good enough for fifth among all players in the league.
Tiernan recorded a total of six hat tricks over the course of the season, scoring a career-high six goals to lead Temple to an 11-10 win at Rutgers on March 11. She scored at least one goal in each of the final six games of the season, while also recording an assist in the final three games. Tiernan, also a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week in back-to-back weeks during the month of March.
The Owls concluded the season with an overall record of 10-6 and a league record of 2-5, placing sixth in the conference. They will return all six players who recorded double figures in goals next year, as well as their starting goalkeeper.
