Tyonna Williams Named to All-WNIT Team

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple women's basketball player Tyonna Williams was named to the six-person All-WNIT team following the 64-team tournament, which concluded on Saturday. The senior led Temple in points and assists in the Owls' five WNIT games, as the team advanced to the program's first post-season final four.
Williams averaged 13.2 points and 4.2 assists per game, while connecting on 82% (22-26) of her free throw attempts. She was the Owls' high scorer in the final two tournament games, with a 23-point effort against Middle Tennessee in the Quarterfinals, and a 15-point game against West Virginia in the semifinals. Against West Virginia, Williams scored the final five points of regulation for the Owls.
The All-WNIT honor caps an outstanding career for the Fort Washington, Md. native. She finished her time at Temple as the program record holder for three pointers and free throw percentage, making 171 threes and connecting on 81.6% (230-282) from the line. The free throw percentage record stood for 27 years, with Williams breaking the previous mark of 81.4% set by Addie Jackson '88. Williams also finished 17th on Temple's career scoring list with 1,075 points, and fourth on the all-time assists list with 397.
Temple closed the 2014-15 campaign with a 20-17 overall mark. The Owls finished tied for third in the American Athletic Conference, before earning a WNIT bid.
