Kakalecik and Tiernan Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Lacrosse Team

PHILADELPHIA - Temple's Jaqi Kakalecik and Nicole Tiernan have both been named to the 2015 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Lacrosse Team. They are two of 12 student-athletes selected to the team, which is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, an athlete must be in at least her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.
Kakalecik, a redshirt junior this past season, boasts a 3.84 grade-point average as a biochemistry major. She has been named to Temple's Trustee Ten two years running for having one of the 10 highest GPA's among all Temple student-athletes, and has been named to the President's Honor Roll in each year of her career. Kakalecik started all 16 games in goal for the Owls in 2015, and made a career-high 13 saves to help Temple upset #19 Delaware. She led the Owls and ranked second in the BIG EAST Conference with 43 ground balls (2.69 per game), and was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on March 10.
Tiernan, a junior kinesiology major, has a cumulative GPA of 3.66 and was named to both the 2015 All-BIG EAST First Team and the 2015 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team this year. She led Temple with 35 goals, ranking fourth in the league with 2.19 goals per game. Tiernan was second on the team with 36 draw controls, good enough for fifth among all players in the conference. She notched a total of six hat tricks in the 2015 season, and scored at least a goal in each of the final six games while also recording an assist in the final three games. Tiernan was a two-time BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week this season.
University of Pennsylvania seniors Lucy Ferguson and Meg Markham share Performer of the Year honors on the all-area team. They were one-two defensive punch for the Quakers this season, helping the team to a 14-5 record while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Championship. The Quakers finished at No. 13 in the final IWLCA national poll.

The remainder of the Academic All-Area team includes Caitlyn Brostrand (La Salle), Megan Decker (Cabrini), Jordyn Dunacusky (Arcadia), Amanda Fedak (Neumann), Jackie Froccaro (Villanova), Kelly Lapp (Immaculata), Kelly O'Brien (Rowan), and Jocelyn Quaile (Drexel).
