Blanca Fernandez Named American Female Runner of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's cross country honors for the week ending Sept. 13, and Temple's Blanca Fernandez has been named the American's Female Runner of the Week.
Fernandez was crowned the Big 5 Invitational Champion this past Friday, Sept. 11. In her first cross country race in a Temple uniform, the senior covered the 4K course at Belmont Plateau in a time of 14:11.7, edging Penn's Ashley Montgomery (14:15.3). Fernandez came to Temple in January of this year, and shattered numerous school records on her way to earning All-America honors for both indoor and outdoor track.
The cross country team travels to nearby Haverford College on Friday, Sept. 18, to run in the Main Line Invite.
