Men's Soccer Set to Host #25 Penn State in Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer is set to face #25 Penn State Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in their first home match of the season.
The Owls saw success in their opening weekend, earning a 1-0 victory over Manhattan and a 1-1 draw with Northeastern. Both contests were played through two overtime periods, totaling 216 minutes of play in two matches.
Sophomore Alex Cagle was named Goalkeeper of the Week by the American Athletic Conference following his successful opening weekend. In his first two career starts, Cagle played the entire 216 minutes allowing only one goal through both matches and recording five saves, as well as his first career shutout against Manhattan.
Newcomers Jorge Gomez Sanchez and Jordan Wix-Rauch made their mark in their Temple debut, each scoring their first career goals. Gomez Sanchez, who was named to the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Honor Roll, also tallied an assist and a total of 15 shots across both matches.
The #25 Nittany Lions are also coming off a 1-0-1 opening run, tallying a win over San Francisco and a draw with Navy. Leading the pack for Penn State were junior Connor Maloney and freshman Mac Curran, who both found the back of the net to tally one goal each.
The Owls last faced the Nittany Lions September 5, 2014 on the road when the Owls fell 1-0. Prior to that match, the two teams had not faced each other since 1997 when the Owls topped the Nittany Lions 2-0. The all-time record for the two squads stands at 40-18-8, with Penn State holding the lead.
