PHILADELPHIA – The Temple Owls' historic 27-10 victory over Penn State on Saturday was a great success for the team. On Monday, the American Athletic Conference lauded two players specifically for their efforts. Senior linebacker Tyler Matakevich received the Defensive Player of the Week award, while Jahad Thomas made the weekly Honor Roll for his efforts. Matakevich tied a conference mark with three sacks in the win, part of the Owls' 10 sack performance. Thomas set a personal high with 29 carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns. His effort contributed to the Owls' domination of time of possession, controlling the ball for 36:15. The Owls were the only conference member to earn multiple spots in this week's honors.
The Owls will begin American play with a visit to Cincinnati this Saturday. Kickoff at Nippert Stadium is set for 8:00 PM.
