Glenn Thomas Promoted to Offensive Coordinator

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple Owls have promoted quarterback coach Glenn Thomas to the role of offensive coordinator. That role was vacated when Marcus Satterfield, who held that position from 2013-15, departed to become head coach at Tennessee Tech earlier this month.
"We brought Glenn in here last year and he did an outstanding job with our quarterbacks," said Temple head coach Matt Rhule. "Glenn is a student of the game and has a track record of working with productive offenses at every level. He will also continue to work with P.J. Walker and the other quarterbacks."
"I'm excited about this opportunity," said Thomas. "My family is excited to stay here in Philadelphia. We have a great staff here and a lot of talented student-athletes that we get to work with everyday. I expect a seamless transition so that we can continue to build upon the foundation that is in place."
Thomas joined the Owls a year ago as quarterback coach and helped P.J. Walker to his best season. In 2015, Walker threw for a school record 2,972 yards completing 56.7% of his passes (245 of 432). While leading the team to a record-tying 10 wins, the junior signal-caller tossed 19 touchdown passes with just eight interceptions. The 2015 offensive unit set school records with 5,134 offensive yards and 417 points.
Said Walker, "Coach Thomas really helped me last year in terms of understanding my role. Why throwing the ball away or escaping the pocket might be a better decision for a quarterback than trying to make a play downfield. He has incredible knowledge of the offense and an ease in being able to share it."
Prior to coming to Philadelphia, Thomas spent three seasons (2012-14) as the Atlanta Falcons quarterback coach after four seasons (2008-11) as the team's offensive assistant. During his tenure in Atlanta the Falcons offense was its most productive in franchise history, and quarterback Matt Ryan soared to new levels each season.
During the three seasons where Thomas guided Ryan, the Philadelphia native and former first round pick out of Boston College threw for more than 4,500 yards and 26 touchdowns in each season earning Pro Bowl honors in 2013 and 2015. Ryan cemented himself as the best quarterback in franchise history, however, it was under Thomas that Ryan set career and franchise single-season highs in passing yards (4,719), touchdown passes (32) and completion percentage (68.6) in 2012.
Aside from his work with Ryan, while Thomas was in Atlanta the offense featured perennial all-pros Roddy White and Julio Jones at wide receiver, Michael Turner at running back, and Tony Gonzalez, arguably the best tight end to play in the NFL.
Following his graduation from Texas Tech, Thomas began his coaching career as a student assistant at his alma mater from 1998-2001. He then moved on to Midwestern State (2001-07) first as a wide receiver coach and eventually as offensive coordinator. In 2007, his offense led the entire NCAA in total offense (550.0 yards per game) and rushing yards per game (317.0).
A native of Eastland, Texas, Thomas and his wife, Felicia, have two sons, Hayden (4) and Dylan (2).
