Women's Tennis Continues Fall Season at the Cissie Leary Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - Temple women's tennis resumed their fall season Friday afternoon at the Cissie Leary Invitational. The Owls faced teams from Columbia, Cornell, Penn State, Princeton, St. John's, University of Delaware, Maryland, Penn, William & Mary, and Yale.
In flight A of the doubles, the pairing of Mariana Bedon and Anais Nussaume lost to Cornell's Cusick/ D'Ascenzo tandem 6-2. In flight B round of the doubles, Alina Abdurakhimova and Cecilia Castelli defeated the Rodriquez/Simpson pair from Drexel 6-4. Ater a strong start, the Abdurakhimova/Castelli duo lost to a pair (Cheng/Groener) from William & Mary 6-3. Additionally, the pairing of Galina Chernykh and Yana Khon defeated the tandem of Cheng/Bland from Columbia 6-1. In the round of 16 doubles in flight B, Chernykh and Kohn lost to the Tour/Williams pair from Maryland 7-6(3).
In flight A of the singles, Chernykh was defeated by Sivian Krems from Princeton 6-4, 7-6, and 8-6. Abdurakhimova was defeated by Marika Cusick from Cornell 4-6, 6-1, and 10-4. In the singles for flight B, Khon defeated Cecily Wuenscher from William & Mary 7-5 and 6-4 to advance to the round of 16. Mariana Bedon was defeated by Marta Kowalska of Penn 6-2 and 6-2. In flight C of the singles, Castelli lost to Jaide Collins from St. John's 7-6, 7-2, and 6-4 while Nussaume bested Anisiya Simpson from Drexel 6-0 and 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.
