Men's Soccer Heads to Cincinnati for Saturday-Night Conference Match

PHILADELPHIA – Heading out for its final road match before a three-game home stand, Temple men's soccer is set to face conference rival Cincinnati on Saturday in Gettler Stadium. The 7 p.m. game will be a faceoff between the Bearcats, who are currently ranked second in the conference with a 2-1 record, and the Owls who stand in a tie for fourth at 1-1-1.

Overall, the Owls stand at 8-4-1 and enter the weekend following a single-goal loss to Columbia in overtime on Tuesday. Last weekend's conference game saw Temple's first ever victory over SMU with a lone goal from Jorge Gomez Sanchez.

Four Owls boast weekly honors from both the American Conference and Philadelphia Soccer Six. Gomez Sanchez, Alex Cagle and Zach Brown swept the Soccer Six Awards, with Gomez Sanchez and Cagle also earning player of the week titles from the Conference. Matt Mahoney was named to the weekly honor roll.

The Owls hold the second-best overall record in the conference at 8-4-1 behind UConn who stands at 10-3 and 3-0 in conference play. Temple leads in shutouts when stacked up against conference opponents.

Individually, Gomez Sanchez leads every individual statistical category aside from assists and assists per game. Cagle's goals against average ranks second behind UConn's Scott Levene.

Nationally, Gomez Sanchez leads in total goals and game-winning goals with 12 and 6, respectively. Cagle's .840 saves percentage ranks 17th among 150 ranked goalkeepers.

The Matchup…
Saturday's game will be the sixth overall meeting between the two squads. The Owls lead the all-time series 3-2-0 and hold the last win played in October of 2015. Temple was able to outscore the Bearcats 3-1 after falling to them in its 2015 conference opener, 3-2.

Cincinnati currently holds a 7-4-1 record with a 2-1 record in conference play that ranks second. Adam Wilson is the Bearcats' point's leader with three goals and eight assists through 12 games. Ryan Melink is the team's goals leader with four.
