PHILADELPHIA – Fred Roland, who has served on the athletics development staff at Army West Point and Duke University, has been named Director of Major Gifts for Athletics at Temple University.

"We are excited to add Fred Roland to the Owl Club staff," said Interim Assistant Vice President of Athletic Development Kris Graves. "As a former student-athlete with a wealth of development experience in two tremendous athletic departments, Fred has demonstrated the ability to build relationships and communicate the tremendous positive impact of financial support on student-athletes."

As Director of Major Gifts, Roland will assist with high level fundraising activities, special projects, and fostering positive external relations and internal University relationships. Additionally, Roland will manage a portfolio of 200-250 donors and prospects while also working closely with the coaches and support staff of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and other members of the Temple University administration.

"I am very excited to be a part of the Temple Owl family," said Roland.  "Temple has a very long and rich history, and I look forward to doing my part to grow its tradition of excellence."

Roland comes to Temple from Army West Point where he spent almost three years as the Associate Director of the Army A Club. There he managed a donor and prospect portfolio of 400+ constituents and oversaw the "Army Friends Of" sports-specific fundraising program for all 28 varsity sports. Roland got his start in athletics development at
Duke University where he worked as an Iron Dukes Annual Fund and Varsity Club Assistant from 2012 to 2014.

Prior to his development experience, Roland served as a graduate assistant in the office of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services at North Carolina Central University.

Roland is a 2008 graduate of Duke University where he was a three-year starter and a four-year letter winner for the Blue Devils football team. As an offensive tackle, Roland played in 46 career games with 35 career starts. He started the final 23 games of his career, and recorded over 800 snaps in 2006 and 2008.
