News & Notes Following Temple's 34-21 Win Over Cincinnati….
Temple's senior class now has 24 wins in the last 3+ seasons. That ranks 18th all-time in school history over a four-year span. However, with 3-5 games remaining, this year's class has a chance to move into third all-time [31 wins (2011), 30 (2012), 28 (1931, 1974, 1975), 27 (1930, 1973, 1976), 26 (1932, 1979, 1980, 1981), 25 (1929, 1933, 1934, 1936, 1967)].
Temple reached the six-win plateau and became bowl eligible for the third season in a row. It just the fifth time that a Temple team had won 6+ games in three consecutive seasons (1927-31, 1934-36, 1973-75, and 2009-2011).
Temple is now bowl eligible for the sixth time in the last eight seasons. Previously, Temple had never gone to bowl games in back-to-back seasons.
Temple recorded a 4-1 record in the month of October and became bowl eligible before the calendar hit November for the second straight year.
Temple is 5-1 at home this season and is now 13-4 in its last 17 games at Lincoln Financial Field.
Senior RB Jahad Thomas led all ball carriers with 151 yards on 17 carries including bursts of 56 and 35 yards. However, his streak of consecutive games with a pair of touchdowns ended at six. Thomas was also 3-18 receiving giving him 20 touches for 169 yards from scrimmage.
Thomas' running mate, sophomore Ryquell Armstead was 18-61 rushing with two scores. Armstead now has 11 TDs on the season (all rushing). Armstead and Thomas (9 rushing TDs) are the only teammates in the country to rush for 7+ TDs each this season.
With a pair of scores, Armstead increased the total number of times an Owl has score twice in the same game this season to 11. Thomas leads with six, Armstead did it for the fourth time and redshirt junior WR Keith Kirkwood has done that once. In contrast, opponents have only done that twice this season against Temple, including Cincinnati WR Devin Gray yesterday.
Redshirt senior LB Avery Williams led the Owls with seven tackles (4 solo). He also added a forced fumble by QB Gunner Kiel that led to a Temple touchdown. As such, he broke the Owls streak of eight straight games with a different tackle leader (he also led the team vs. Army on opening day). Last season, the Owls had one player lead the team in tackles in all 14 games.
The Owls went ahead with a field goal 4:29 into the game and held the lead for the remainder of the game. It was the second time this season that Temple didn't trail in a game. In fact, in their last five home games (all wins), the Owls have trailed just 16:34 of the 300 minutes and held the lead for 257:24.
Temple converted on 7-of-14 third down attempts and 1-of-2 on fourth down. In the past two games Temple is 17-30 (56.7%) on third down.
Redshirt senior DL Avery Ellis blocked a punt for the second straight game. With 18 blocked kicks since the start of 2013, Temple leads the nation in that category.
Temple had 474 total yards of offense giving them 1,002 over the past two games. That includes 594 rushing yards. In those two weeks, Temple's time of possession is 79:30 to 40:30.
