Women’s Soccer Earns NSCAA College Team Academic Award for Sixth Consecutive Year

10.7.16 | Women's Soccer

KANSAS CITY, Mo.– For the sixth consecutive year, Temple women's soccer has earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Award for the 2015-2016 academic year. To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.

During the year, the Owls posted a 3.51 team GPA and had 14 players named to Temple's Director's Honor Roll (GPA between 3.0-3.5) and 11 on the President's Honor Roll (GPA above a 3.5). The team also had three members of the Trustee Ten, which is the top 10 athletes with the highest GPAs.

Since the aware was established in 1996, Temple has been honored with the award 12 times (1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016).

This season, Temple Athletic Director Dr. Patrick Kraft instituted the new Owl Scholar Program where student-athletes will wear a special patch on their jerseys. Newly designed patches will be adorned to the uniforms of all returning student-athletes who have completed a Temple degree program or who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above before their season begins and for those who earned a GPA of 3.0 or above from the previous semester. Women's soccer is one of six Temple teams who have 100% of its returning student-athletes earn patches.
