Women’s Cross Country is Tested at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional

State College, Pa. – Nearing the end of the 2016 cross country season, Temple women's cross country lined up at noon on Friday with 28 other teams for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. The Owls fell short against the ranked teams in the region, finishing 19th overall along the rolling hills of Penn State's course.

"We always place so much emphasis on the conference meet, so it is always a quick turnaround when preparing for the regional meet," said head coach James Snyder. "As a runner grows an matures as an athlete, they get to undertsand the urgency there."

Temple finished just five points behind Towson. Penn State took first place on their home course with three runners in the top 10. Fellow Big Five schools Villanova and Penn placed second and third respectively, each with two top-10 finishers.

The Owls' best finisher was sophomore Katie Leisher. Leisher earned a top-50 finish at 31st place in a time of 21:31. Temple's no. 2 runner was freshman Millie Howard placing 72nd (22.13).

"Katie did a good job today of trying to stay in the front and keeping up with the competition," said Snyder. "We hoped that Grace would be able to bounce back from her performance at the conference championship, but just was not able to run her best. However, I believe Millie ran a good race today and I look forward to seeing her improve."
