Temple Football Celebrates Thanksgiving in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – On the eve of Thanksgiving, the Temple Football team took a break preparing for its final regular season game on Saturday against American Athletic Conference foe East Carolina (kickoff 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field). During their time away from the field they helped make the holiday special for families within their community.

To help spread the spirit of Thanksgiving, members of the team (Dion Dawkins, Michael Dogbe, Avery Ellis, Artrel Foster, Jacob Martin, and Brodrick Yancy) spent the afternoon delivering food donations to several local programs. After raising money to purchase 45 turkeys, canned goods and other food products, the team supplied them to Bright Hope Church, Berean Presbyterian Church, The Bethesda Project, which helps serve the homeless of Philadelphia, and St. John's Hospice, which gives men of Philadelphia a safe place to go.

Overall, the team donated hundreds of canned vegetables and fruits, as well as dry products such as macaroni and cheese, cereal, and Ramen noodles. The team also provided a monetary donation.

On Wednesday night, nine players (Darian Bryant, Kevin DeCaesar, Dan Drewes, Vaughn Fulton, Deandre Kelly, Sam Kramer, James McHale, Jullian Taylor, and Jyquis Thomas) shuttled up to Stenton Family Manor in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia to serve Thanksgiving dinner to 220 residents. Each year, Sonny DiCrecchio, the President/CEO of the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market, provides a Thanksgiving feast for the shelter's residence and the Temple football team has helped serve those meals over the past four seasons.

During the school's fall break, the team stayed on campus in Philadelphia preparing for its matchup against East Carolina. A win gives the Owls a second consecutive berth in the American Athletic Conference Championship game to be played on Saturday, December 3, at 12:00 noon. Temple is trying to earn the East Division crown and have a possibility of hosting the championship game at Lincoln Financial Field.
