Temple Cracks the Top 25, Ranked No. 23 in AP Poll

PHILADELPHIA - For the first time this season, Temple is ranked in the Top 25, entering the Associated Press Poll at No. 23. The ranking comes after Temple defeated No. 19 Navy, 34-10 in the American Athletic Conference Championship, claiming its first conference title since 1967.

The Owls are now 10-3 on the season and have been riding a seven-game winning streak which is tied for the sixth longest streak in the nation. During this win streak, the Owls have been averaging 32.7 points and outscoring their opponents by an average margin of 20.1 points.

Temple was ranked for a total of seven weeks last year and reached as high as No. 21 in the AP Poll. This is the first time Temple will be ranked in back-to-back seasons.

This season, the Owls have had nine all-conference selections including two first team honorees ( DL Haason Reddick, OL Dion Dawkins), five second team selections  (RB Jahad Thomas, K Aaron Boumerhi, DL Praise Martin Oguike,  LB Avery Williams , DB Sean Chandler) and two players earning honorable mention (LB Stephaun Marshall and TE Colin Thompson).

The Owls offense has scored 30+ points in its last three games and now averages a total of 32.8 PPG on the season.  They are led by senior QB Phillip Walker who earned the American Athletic Conference Championships Most Outstanding Player and is the Owls all-time leader in attempts (1,410), completions (801), passing yards (10,273), touchdowns (73), total offense (11,100) and wins by a starting quarterback (28).

Temple's total defense ranks third in the country giving up an average of 275.9 yards and ranks in the top 10 nationally for multiple categories including scoring  defense (8th - 17.2/PPG,),  passing yards (2nd - 145.2/YPG,), redzone defense (6th -  72.4),  fumbles recovered (5th - 13) and first downs (10th - 193).

Temple is now bowl eligible for the third year in a row. They will wait to see what bowl the selection committee puts them in later today.
