Men’s Tennis Wins Midweek Match against Lehigh, 6-1

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a 7-0 shutout at the hands of Penn State on Saturday, the Temple men's tennis team bounced back by defeating Lehigh on Wednesday, 6-1. The Owls move to 13-4 on the season.

Temple swept the doubles point, starting off with a shutout win at the first flight from Hicham Belkssir and Vineet Naran. Artem Kapshuk and Santiago Canete followed up with a 6-2 win at the second flight to clinch the point. Uladzimir Dorash and Florian Mayer moved to 9-4 on the season in doubles with a 6-3 victory at the third flight.

In singles, the Owls continued to look strong as Kapshuk picked up his team-leading 12th singles victory at the second flight, taking down Bryant Born, 6-1, 6-0. Belkssir followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the fifth flight over George Cooper. The Mountain Hawks' only point came at the sixth flight, where Tyler Hansen and Fillip Stipcic battled into a third set, but Hansen would take the point on an injury default.

Temple would win at the first flight with a 7-5, 6-3 showing from Canete, take a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory at the fourth flight with Nicolas Paulus, and wrap up the match with a 7-6, 7-5 battle at the third flight in favor of Dorash.

"This was one of the guys best performances of the year. They played extremely well in both singles and doubles," said head coach Steve Mauro. "Lehigh had only lost one match this season and was a strong opponent. Hopefully this win gives us the momentum we need going into our match against Memphis."

The Owls will travel to Tennessee for a matchup with the #33 Tigers on March 26.
