Temple DB Tavon Young Drafted by Baltimore Ravens

PHILADELPHIA – The Baltimore Ravens selected Temple defensive back Tavon Young (Oxon Hills, Md.) in the 4th round of the 2016 National Football League Draft on Saturday afternoon.
Young was the #104 selection in the 2016 NFL Draft and the sixth pick of the 4th round. He joins OL Ronnie Stanley, DE Kamalei Correa, and DE Bronson Kaufusi as new members of the Ravens.
Young is a complete cornerback equally adept at shutting down a receiver as he is in run support. After a junior season in which he had a career-best four interceptions and a conference leading 153 return yards, many teams avoided his side of the field. As a senior, he helped lead the Owls to a school record 10 wins and a Top 25 ranking for the first time in 36 years.
"Tavon's impact to the team was evident when the all-conference team was announced," said head coach Matt Rhule. "While we had great representation with 10 players earning honors, many of Tavon's teammates were surprised that he wasn't on the list. There is no question Tavon was a major, major reason we had the success we did in 2015 and it's no surprise to us that he was drafted into the NFL."
Young is the 64th Temple football player to be drafted into the NFL and the first since 2012 when Bernard Pierce (Baltimore), Evan Rodriguez (Chicago) and Tahir Whitehead (Detroit) were selected.
Young joins Cody Booth (Washington), Jaiquan Jarrett (New York Jets), Kamal Johnson (Washington), Terrance Knighton (New England), Brandon McManus (Denver), Bernard Pierce (Jacksonville), Rod Streater (Kansas City), Martin Wallace (Chicago), Tahir Whitehead (Detroit), and Muhammad Wilkerson (New York Jets) as former Owls currently active in the NFL.
