GRAND LAKE, Colo. - Junior Morgan Glassford and senior Jaqi Kakalecik have both been selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Region Second Team following the conclusion of the 2016 season.
Across four regions, a total of 128 student-athletes were named to all-region teams. Glassford and Kakalecik are two of 16 named to the second team in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and the honor is the first for both student-athletes. The 128 are all now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Wednesday, May 18. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday, June 4 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
Glassford, a midfielder for the Owls, started in all 19 games this season in helping lead Temple to a 13-6 record and a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament Final. Her 78 draw controls were a BIG EAST-best and rank first all-time in a single season at Temple. With 4.11 draw controls per game, Glassford also ranked 18th among all players in NCAA Division I. She was honored with selection to the BIG EAST First Team, and was later named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team after an outstanding performance in the Owls' two tournament games.
Playing every minute in goal for Temple this season, Kakalecik finished the year ranked eighth among all NCAA Division I goalkeepers with a goals-against average of 7.08. That average also ranks eighth all-time in a single season at Temple, while her career goals-against average of 9.03 ranks sixth all-time. With 317 career saves, Kakalecik ranks ninth all-time in program history. She racked up the honors in her senior season, being named to the BIG EAST Second Team after earning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors three times.Â
Temple, picked to finish sixth in the BIG EAST in 2016, instead tied for third and earned its first-ever BIG EAST Tournament berth before advancing to the championship game. The Owls finished at 13-6 overall, their most wins since 2008. Head Coach Bonnie Rosen and her staff were named Co-Coaching Staff of the Year in the BIG EAST Conference, and a record number six Owls earned all-conference honors.
