5.3.16 | Women's Lacrosse

NEW YORK - Two of the final four weekly honors of the season given by the BIG EAST Conference have gone to Temple lacrosse, with Jaqi Kakalecik earning her third Defensive Player of the Week honor this season, and Rachel Schwaab earning her first Attacker of the Week award. Also honored was senior midfielder Megan Tiernan, named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Kakalecik was also named the Under Armour OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week after making 10 saves in the Owls' only game of the week, an 11-4 defeat of Georgetown in a must-win game for Temple. She stopped five shots by the Hoyas in each half, holding them to just a pair of goals in each period, and recorded a caused turnover in the win. The senior enters the postseason boasting the top goals against average in the BIG EAST at 6.50 (fifth in the nation), while her .500 save percentage lists second. Kakalecik's 10 saves gave her 307 in her career, tying her for ninth all-time at Temple.

Schwaab totaled four points off two goals and two assists in what proved to be a crucial win for the Owls to continue their season. The four points matched the league single-game high from last week, while the point total was Schwaab's highest in BIG EAST action this season and most since a six-point showing versus Rutgers on March 9. Temple topped Georgetown 11-4 to earn its first BIG EAST Championship berth, entering the tournament as the No. 3 seed.

In a pivotal win for the Owls, Tiernan stuffed the stat sheet with a goal, three assists, a ground ball and caused turnover. The trio of dishes matched her season high which she recorded twice previously during non-league action.

Temple will face second-seeded UConn at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5. Georgetown's Cooper Field is the site of all the action, and both semifinal games will be broadcast by the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) which can be seen live through the Fox Sports Go app. Top-seeded Florida will face fourth-seeded Georgetown in the other semifinal at 4:30 p.m.
