Women's Soccer Releases 2016 Schedule
6.15.16 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – With a new facility awaiting the Temple women's soccer team for the 2016 season, head coach Seamus O'Connor announced the team's schedule today. The Owls will play nine of their 20 games at the new facility, which will be located at the site of the former William Penn High School at Broad and Master Streets.
"I am very happy with the quality and variety of playing styles we were able to get on our non-conference schedule," said O'Connor "We will have a very young team and it is important that they learn as much as possible from these non-conference games. When we start our very difficult conference schedule, they will be faced with having to play top quality opponents in every game, but who all have different styles of play."
After a scrimmage with Villanova on August 15, Temple will face off against another City Six rival when Drexel comes to North Broad on August 19 in the first night game at the new facility.
The Owls then head out on the road to face Delaware State (Aug. 21), La Salle (Aug. 28), and Rider (Sept. 1) before returning to Philadelphia to host Towson on September 4. This will be the first time the Owls and the Tigers have met since the 1998 season.
Temple will spend five straight games on the road to round out its non-conference schedule, starting with a match-up at Princeton on September 9, the first since 2012, before traveling to Binghamton on September 11. The Owls head to Mount St. Mary's (Sept. 16), NJIT (Sept. 18), and Lehigh (Sept. 20) to close out the road trip.
American Athletic Conference play starts on September 29, when the Owls play host to the Memphis Tigers in a Thursday afternoon match before welcoming Tulsa on October 2. The Owls head out to Texas for two conference matches when they face Houston (Oct. 6) and SMU (Oct. 9) before returning home.
Matches against USF (Oct. 13), UCF (Oct. 16) and UConn (Oct. 22) round out the home schedule for the Owls. Trips to East Carolina on October 27 and the conference champion Cincinnati Bearcats on October 30 close out the regular season.
Information regarding the 2016 American Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament will be made available closer to the beginning of the season.
Last season, Temple set the program record for wins in a season after going 12-7-1 overall, while also picking up a 4-4-1 mark in American Athletic Conference play. Seniors Kelly Farrell and Erin Lafferty were named to the All-Conference second team, while goalkeeper Jordan Nash picked up All-Rookie honors after she stepped up for an injured Shauni Kerkhoff.
