8.28.16 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer dropped a tough 1-0 match at Philadelphia Big 5 rival La Salle Sunday afternoon. The Owls fall to 1-2 on the season, while the Explorers advanced to 2-2.
The Explorers tallied the lone goal of the match in the sixth minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Nash saved an initial shot, but the Explorers' Marykate Bateman pushed the rebound past Nash for the game-winner.
Both teams finished the first half with seven shots each. Nash had three saves and La Salle goalkeeper Larisa Zambelli had four.
In the 85th minute, junior Gabriella McKeown had the Owls' best chance to tie the game, but Zambelli made an outstanding save on her shot in the goal mouth.
Nash ended the day with eight saves and the lone goal against. As a team, Temple had 13 shots, with senior Elaine Byerley leading the team with five shots.
Head coach Seamus O'Connor says that the team is making progress, but they still have some work to do.
"We are a young team, still trying to grow." O'Connor said. "I think as the second half went on we started getting more confident."
The Owls will stay on the road as they travel over the bridge to New Jersey to take on the Rider Broncs at 6 p.m. on Thursday September 1.
