LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Temple men's soccer suffered its first loss of the season on the road, falling to the Rider Broncs 2-0. Despite outshooting the Broncs 19-11, the Owls were unable to stop Rider off set pieces.
The first half saw no score from either team with the Owls' logging eight shots without finding the back of the net.
As the second-half opened, the Broncs sent a deep cross into the box that was headed in by Rob Nardiello in the 54th minute.
Less than 10 minutes later, the Broncs doubled their lead after drawing Alex Cagle out of the net where he suffered injury and left the net open. Adrien Huss capitalized on the open net and pushed Rider to a 2-0 lead in the 63rd minute.
The Owls' best chance came from a penalty drawn in the 68th minute. Despite the one-on-one goal opportunity, Jorge Gomez Sanchez's shot was saved by Rider goalie Ryan Baird.
Overall, Gomez Sanchez led the team with five shots and Cagle recorded one save.
The Owls now stand a 4-1-0 in their 2016 campaign and face Philadelphia Soccer Six opponent, Drexel, on Tuesday. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m. at the Vidas Field.
