Women's Soccer Adds Falcone as Third Team Captain
9.14.16 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – Women's soccer head coach Seamus O'Connor is delighted to announce the addition of Elana Falcone as a captain for the 2016 season.
"Elana was a part of a group of potential captains we identified," O'Connor said. "Unfortunately we lost two of them, Cait Jackson and Gina DiTaranto, to career ending injuries"
Throughout her career, Falcone has played in 27 games throughout her Temple career, while starting 13. In her appearances, Falcone has netted six goals and compiling six assists and 18 points.
"Elana has shown us over the course of her time in our program, that as we move into the next phase for our program, she has the personality and character to help continue to guide the positive direction we are heading," O'Connor added. "We are very lucky to have an opportunity for Elana to work with current captains, Elaine and Paige, before they graduate so she can learn from them on what is required to fill the role of a captain with our program. They both do a great job providing leadership on and off the field"
Falcone joins current team captains Elaine Byerley and Paige Rachel. O'Connor announced the two seniors as captains before the start of the season and talks very highly of their capabilities.
"Elaine is such a tremendous leader for us and leads by her all action style of play," O'Connor said. "She is a dominant physical force on the field and sets the standards for commitment. I am always impressed by her willingness to never quit and give one hundred percent for every minute she is on the field. She is always willing to play through the pain and inspires others by her commitment shown on and off the field. Off the field, Elaine also shows the same levels of commitment to lead by organizing the team every day to allow us to achieve our best in everything that we do."
"Paige is a great example of what we expect from all of our players," O'Connor said. "She has unfortunately suffered through multiple ACL injuries during her college career but has shown the mental and physical toughness to come back each time. Paige is a quiet leader who is very mature for her age, which means players feel comfortable coming to talk to her about any problems they might have as they know she will listen and try to help in any way that she can."
