Two Temple Women Place in Top Ten at Rider Invitational

PENNINGTON, N.J. – On Friday evening at the Rider Invitational, Temple placed two runners in the top 10. Out of 122 participants, sophomore Katie Leisher was the Owls' top finisher, placing fourth overall with a time of 22:01.5. Just a few seconds behind was freshman Millie Howard who finished the 6K in 22:14.39, earning sixth place.
"Katie Leisher was at around 15th place through the mile and as people started to drop off, she hung in tough and pushed up to fourth," explained head coach James Snyder. "Today was Millie's first ever 6K competition in her life and she ran like a veteran. She moved from about 20th to sixth. That really showed off her leg speed."
Freshman Caitlin O'Brien was Temple's third-best finisher in 23:24.12. "O'Brien stepped up as our No. 3," Snyder commented. "We have to have all our athletes in the top 30 and she was right at 29. If we've got our top five runners in the top 30 we'll be in great shape by the conference meet."
Overall, Temple women's cross country finished fourth among the nine schools at Rosedale Park. The meet's host, Rider University, placed sixth.
The Owls will next compete at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University on Oct. 1.
