Men's Soccer Travels to Penn State for Tuesday-Night Match

9.26.16 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA – As Temple men's soccer rolls into the heat of its season, the team is set for their next road test at Penn State Tuesday evening. The Owls are hosted by the Nittany Lions for a 7:00 p.m. match at Jeffery Field. The game is set to be broadcasted on the Big Ten Network Plus.

Still on the hunt for their first away win, the Owls are standing at 5-3-0 heading into tomorrow's game. On Saturday, a tough match at UConn ended at 1-0 in the Huskies' favor, putting Temple at 0-1 to kick off conference play.

Contrary to the road struggles, the Owls remain undefeated at the Temple Sports Complex. Following the match at Penn State, Temple will look to host its first conference opponent at its new home with Memphis coming to town on Saturday.

Jorge Gomez Sanchez continues to lead the team with 21 overall points that ranks second nationally. He also sits in the number two spot in multiple other categories such as total goals and goals and points per game.

Goalkeeper Alex Cagle is coming off a season-high game against the Huskies where he posted four crucial saves in the first half to maintain a 0-0 draw heading into the second half. Despite letting in the single game-winner, Cagle has posted a .89 goals against average that ranks second in the conference.

The Matchup…
The Nittany Lions welcome the Owls to State College following a double overtime win against Big Ten opponent Wisconsin at home on Sept. 23.

Penn State stands at 4-3-1 on its 2016 campaign with a 2-1-0 record in the conference.  Connor Maloney lead the team with four goals and three assists including the team's game-winning penalty kick from Friday's victory.

Last season, the Owls hosted the Nittany Lions at the Ambler Sports Complex where they came away with a 2-0 victory to mark the first win over Penn State since 1997.

Overall, the Owls trail the all-time series 19-40-8.
