PITTSBURGH, Pa. –Freshman Grace Moore was the Owls' top finisher earning 2nd place at the Duquesne Duals on Saturday. In her first college meet, Moore finished with a time of 18:11.6 among 81 runners.
"Grace Moore's race was phenomenal," said head coach James Snyder. "She stood out today and her performance was a pleasant surprise."
Sophomore Katie Leisher was Temple's second best finisher, helping the team place third overall among seven teams. Leisher finished the 5k in 18:32.3, earning fourth place.
"Katie had a really great summer of training," Snyder boasted. "She ran about what I expected her to run at her fitness level, but she ran faster than she did last year at this time."
As the first meet of the 2016 season, the Duquesne Duals did a great job at helping the Owls get a strong start for the rest of the fall.
"I like starting our season out at Duquesne," Snyder explained. "It is a challenging course. The last half is more difficult than the first half which teaches our young runners patience." Not only does the course prepare the runners physically, but it also teaches them how to mentally prepare for farther meets. "I like to travel to Pittsburgh for the first meet because the experience teaches our younger runners to get used to the traveling aspect of college meets as well as professionalism on race day," Snyder added.
Next up, the Owls will host the annual Big 5 Invitational on Sept. 9 at Belmont Plateau.
