Abdurakhimova Goes Undefeated in Singles Play on Day Two of VCU Invite

RICHMOND, Va. – On the second day of play at the VCU Invite, Temple women's tennis picked up one win and one loss to conclude their play for the weekend. The Owls recorded a 5-0 sweep of Longwood after falling 3-2 to the hosting VCU Rams.
In the Owls' first match against VCU, Alina Abdurakhimova and Dina Karina were able to post wins for the Owls. Abdurakhimova played in the first slot once again and defated Anna Rasmussen 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Karina grabbed her win the number four position over Gabriela Araujo, 6-4, 6-4.
The Mariana Bedon and Anais Nussaume pair was unable to grab the doubles win over Darya Berezhnaya and Noumea Witmus and ultimately dropped the matched 4-2 overall.
Against Longwood, Temple saw victory in all five matchups with Nussaume pairing up with Karina for a 6-1, 6-2 doubles win over Anna Pelak and Paloma Alatoree.
In singles play, Abdurakhimova, Bedon, Monet Stuckey-Willis, and Cecilia Castell grabbed wins over their respective opponents. The win for Abdurakhimova marked her third of three at the VCU Invite.
The Owls return to the court on Friday, Feb. 3 for an early-morning dual against Villanova. The match is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. and will take place on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
