Volleyball Earns Sweep at USF

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Temple volleyball team won on the road on Friday night, sweeping USF at The Corral. The Owls earned the sweep (25-23, 25-22, 25-16) to move t 9-6 overall, 5-2 in conference play. The Bulls dip to to 7-10, 2-5.
KEYS TO THE MATCH
> The Owls held USF to a .186 attack, while the Temple offense hit .284.
> Seven Temple players recorded kills, led by 12 from senior Izzy Rapacz.
> Temple went up big in the first set, before holding off a late USF run to win 25-23.
> In the second, the Owls grabbed another tight set, winning 25-22.
> Temple used two nine-point surges to turn a deficit around in set four, winning 25-16.
> Senior Dara Peric recorded her 1,000th career dig in the second set.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Rapacz hit .308 while adding three blocks in the win.Â
> Peric finished with nine kills, hitting .444 with four digs.
> Senior Janine Simmons talied seven kills and a team-best four blocks.
> Redshirt freshman Dana Westfield had seven kills.
> Senior Kyra Coundourides tallied 36 assists, nine digs, and five kills.
> Freshman Katerina Papazoglou finished with five digs and three kills.
> Junior Mia Heirakuji tallied a team-high 11 digs.
> Freshman Averi Salvador notched eight digs.Â
SET ONE: Temple 25, USF 23
> Temple opened set one with a 9-1 run.Â
> USF got the lead back down to five at 11-6.
> Backed by two kills each from Simmons and Rapacz, the Owls pushed the lead to 18-10.
> The hosts then made a run, cutting it to just a one point game at 24-23.
> Temple got the final point it needed as Rapacz nailed one off the USF block for the set winner.
SET TWO: Temple 25, USF 22
> Temple took a 5-2 lead early in frame two.
> USF cut it to 6-5 but Temple pushed it back to 10-6.
> USF surged again, taking its first lead at 11-10.
> The Owls quickly answered with four-straight and the lead changed hands twice more.
> Tied 21-21, the Owls closed out the set on a 4-1 run, which included a pair of Rapacz kills.
SET THREE: Temple 25, USF 16
> After trailing by as many as three early, the Owls tied it up at 7-7 on a Deak ace.
> Temple continued to surge, making it a 9-2 run to go up 13-8, the Owls' largest lead of the frame.
> USF used a small run to cut it to three at 16-13, but that was as close as they would get.
> Temple sealed the sweep with a final 9-3 surge, making it 25-16.Â
