Volleyball Stuns UCF on the Road

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Temple volleyball rallied from down 0-2 in the match and 13-9 in the fifth set to stun UCF at home on Sunday afternoon. The Owls won the final three sets to move to 10-6 overall, 6-2 in The American. UCF dips to 10-10 overall, 3-5 in conference play.
KEYS TO THE MATCH
> The Owls fell victim to extended UCF runs in both the first and second sets.
> UCF's offense rolled in the first two frames, hitting .452 in the first and .395 in the second.
> Temple took over the momentum in the final three, combining for a .320 clip on offense and averaging 16 digs per set on defense.
> In the fifth and final set, the Owls trailed 12-9, before a 6-1 run gave the set and match to TU.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Senior Izzy Rapacz led all players with 25 kills hitting .537, adding six digs and two blocks.
> Senior Kyra Coundourides tallied a double-double with 48 assists and 16 digs.Â
> Redshirt freshman Dana Westfield finished with 11 kills and five digs.
> Senior Janine Simmons tallied nine kills.
> Senior Dara Peric had eight kills and 11 digs.
> Junior Mia Heirakuji led the Owls' defense with 17 digs.
> Freshman Averi Salvador ended her day with 10 digs and a team-best three aces.
SET ONE: UCF 25, Temple 16
> Despite a 4-2 start, the Owls fell victime to a 13-2 UCF run.
> Temple wasn't able to get the lead to under six the rest of the frame.
> The Owls hit just .167 to UCF's .452, falling behind 0-1.
SET TWO: UCF 25, Temple 20
> Again the Owls opened with a lead but succumbed to an extended UCF run.
> Up 5-3 Temple saw UCF go on a 13-3 run to take control of the match.
> The Owls cut the lead to six with back-to-back Rapacz kills.
> UCF surged again, going up 23-14.
> Temple then went on a 6-1 run, including spoiling five set points.
> The Knights, however, found one final kill, taking a 2-0 lead into the break.
SET THREE: Temple 25, UCF 16
> Temple had a slim 4-3 to start the set, but it was tied seven more times taking it to 10-10.
> Each team traded 3-0 runs to make it a 13-13 set.
> Temple took control of the set, as Rapacz and Guennewig kills keyed an 8-2 run.
> Leading 21-16, the Owls then closed out the frame with four unanswered to cut the match lead to 2-1.
SET FOUR: Temple 25, UCF 22
> Temple broke a 3-3 tie with a 6-2 run that gave the Owls the lead for good.
> TU stretched the lead to five points in three spots, the last being a 19-14 advantage.
> UCF kept things close, rallying to get within two at 22-20.
> However, Temple used a pair of Simmons kills to get set point at 24-21.Â
> UCF spoiled one for the Owls, but went long on the next serve, giving TU the 25-22 win to tie the match.
SET FIVE: Temple 15, UCF 13
> The fifth set went back and forth in the early goings, with the teams trading sideouts until it was 6-6.
> UCF then weent on a 6-0 to take control, 11-6.
> Temple got a few back, but the Knights still lead 12-8.
> From there, Temple turned the tides, mounting a furious comeback.
> The Owls used a 7-1 run to close out the set, with Rapacz getting the final two points to win it.
