Phoenix - Temple Volleyball (4-2) fell to Grand Canyon University (3-3) Sunday afternoon at Global Credit Union Arena. Temple showed a strong fight led by Christiana Green and Lexi Yoza but GCU's defense was stout as they were able to win in 4 sets.
Set:1
Steel Sinai got the scoring started for the Owls in a back and forth battle to start the match
Olivia Hummel recorded 2 kills in a row that started a run by the Owls to extend the lead 8-6
The play was competitive throughout the first set, neither team could break away as the game was tied at 16.
GCU started gain an advantage due to two service errors from Temple and won the set 23-25

GCU continued momentum from their last set and quickly went up 0-2
Defense helped get the Owls back into the game when Khenedi Guest and Lexi Yoza recorded back to back blocks to tie the game at 3-3
Tough defense by GCU made life difficult for the Owls as they went up 6-11 on Temple due to blocks and forced errors
Green and Yoza led a small come back, but GCU's defense stood tall and won the set 13-25

Green initiated the scoring for the Owls as they went up 2-1 early in set three, until GCU launched a 0-3 run and regained the lead at 2-4
Temple proved to be resilient, and strong performances from Kennedy Crayton and Yoze put the Owls up 11-7
Temples defense started to make noise with blocks from Crayton and Sinai to put the Owls up 17-12
GCU launched a small comeback but a kill from Guest helped seal the set victory for Temple at 25-20

Temple fought their way back from being down 0-3 early in set four, bringing the game within 2 at 4-6
GCU's defense was strong as they went on a 5-0 run, leading the game 5-10
The Owls showed fight with kills from Guest and Crayton bringing the game within 3 at 13-16 but GCU's serving proved to be a handful and held off the comeback
The set would end 15-26 and GCU won the match (3-1)
