Owls Soar In Second Round Of GCU Invitational

PHOENIX - Temple Volleyball (4-1) swept Louisiana Monroe (2-3) Saturday afternoon at Global Credit Union Arena. The Owls continued their offensive success with major contributions from senior Olivia Hummel and freshman Kennedy Crayton, who recorded a career-high 14 kills.
Set 1
Senior Olivia Hummel got the scoring started for the Owls with a kill and an ace as she continued her success from the previous match.
ULM responded with a 3-0 run before Khenedi Guest ended the stretch with a kill, giving the Owls an 8-5 lead.
The set featured back-and-forth action until ULM used a 4-0 run to tie the score at 14.
Christiana Green and Guest helped spark a 4-0 Temple run to give the Owls an 18-14 advantage.
ULM orchestrated another comeback, but Temple's defense was too strong. Hummel came up with a key block as the Owls eventually closed out the set with a 25-21 victory.
Set 2
Mistakes hurt the Owls early as Louisiana Monroe jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Green delivered an emphatic kill to end the run.
Steel Sinai was a force at the net and helped Temple take a 4-3 lead.
Back-to-back kills by Green gave the Owls a 10-8 advantage.
Neither team was able to create much separation as the set remained tight at the media timeout.
Crayton continued her strong start to the season, totaling nine kills through the first two sets.
The set remained tightly contested with several ties and one-point margins, but Green, Guest and Hummel helped Temple pull away for a 25-19 victory in the second set.
Set 3
Green and Guest continued the scoring for the Owls in the third set, giving Temple an early 2-1 lead.
Crayton continued to produce offensively, recording three kills to bring her total to 12 and help the Owls take a 13-10 advantage.
Sinai provided another strong presence at the net with a key block as Temple extended its lead to 17-15.
ULM created some momentum and pulled within 21-20, but the Owls' defense held strong with blocks from Guest and Hummel.
Lexi Yoza was everywhere for the Owls, tallying 36 assists and three blocks. Temple closed out the sweep with a 25-22 victory in the third set.
