Women's Soccer Falls in Tough Road Match at USF

10.19.17 | Women's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women's soccer team (6-8-2, 2-4-1) ended up falling 1-0 in a tough on the road matchup to USF (10-3-0, 6-1-0) who is currently third in the American Athletic Conference. The Owls played great defense all night up until the 62nd minute where the Bulls scored the lone goal in the game.

Match Notes
>The first half was a scoreless showdown and the Owls and the Bulls held each other in check. Key highlight of the first half was Morgan Basileo, who had five saves in the half.
> The scoreless streak was broken in the 62nd minute as USF'S Leah Ferlin scored off an assist from Sabrina Wagner to put the Bulls up 1-0.
>The Owls had a great chance at the end of the game as junior midfielder Juliet Esposito stroked a ball just short of midfield, trying to chip it over the goalkeeper. Unfortunately, USF's Kat Elliott made a spectacular diving save holding the Bulls lead at 1-0.

Match Notes
>Basileo had eight saves in the match which is the second most she's had this season.
>Although USF had 21 shots, only nine of them were on goal as the Owls did not give up a lot of quality chances throughout the match.
>Senior forward Gabriella McKeown and junior forward Kerri McGinley led the Owls in shots with two each.

Quotable
"I thought our entire team played great defense throughout the match," said Temple head coach Seamus O'Connor. "Unfortunately USF capitalized on a counter against us and that was the difference of the game. I have confidence in our team that we can cash in on our opportunities going forward."

"USF had to change their traditional shape up a lot tonight to beat us and it shows you the amount of respect they have for us," said O'Connor.

Up Next
> This was the first of two road games in Florida as the team will head to UCF to take on the Knights Sunday, Oct. 22nd with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
