Six Straight Wins for Volleyball as the Owls top Houston

PHILADELPHIA -- A strong team effort led the Temple volleyball team to their sixth-straight victory on Friday night. The Owls topped visiting Houston, 3-0, winning 25-19, 25-23, 25-20, to move to 13-6 overall, 9-2 in conference play. The Cougars fall to 8-11, 4-7 in The American.
KEYS TO THE MATCH
> Temple hit .278 in the match, holding the Cougars to a .184 attack.
> The Owls' defense adjusted to the tempo of Houston's offense, out-digging the Cougars, 61-55.
> Temple did not trail in the first and third sets of the sweep.
> The Owls worked around a few late Houston runs, recording a 66% sideout clip for the match.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Senior Kyra Coundourides notched a double-double of 42 assists and 12 digs, running the Temple offense.
> Redshirt freshman Dana Westfield led all players with 14 kills.Â
> Freshman Katerina Papazoglou notched 12 kills and seven digs.Â
> Senior Izzy Rapacz finished her night with 11 kills, five blocks, and five digs.Â
> Junior Iva Deak put up seven kills, six digs, and a pair of blocks.
> Freshman Averi Salvador led the Owls with a career-best 15 digs.
> Junior Mia Heirakuji tallied 13 digs to bolster the defense.
> Senior Janine Simmons rounded out the highlights with five blocks and four kills.

> Temple led from start to finish, holding off some late Cougar rallies.
> The Owls turned a 10-9 edge into a 19-12 advantage with a 9-3 surge.
> Rapcz helped to push the Temple lead to 23-15 with a pair of kills.
> Houston scored four straight points to make it 23-19.
> The Owls saw winners from Coundourides and Papazoglou to close out the 25-19 win.
SET TWO: Temple 25, Houston 23
> Seven ties and a pair of lead changes were the story of set two.
> Houston grabbed their first advantage of the entire match at 3-2.
> Holding a slim 8-7 lead, Temple scored four in a row to go up 12-7.
> Houston answered with a 7-2 surge to cut it to 15-14.Â
> Though the Owls created some breathing room, another 7-2 Houston run tied the set at 23-23.
> Temple called timeout to regroup, and scored back-to-back on a Papazoglou kill and a Cougar error to take it, 25-23.

> Late in the frame, the Cougars used a 4-1 run to cut the lead to one at 20-19.
