Two More Home Matches on Tap for TUVB this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will look to continue a five-match win streak this weekend, with a pair of home games at McGonigle Hall. The Owls will host Houston on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and play Tulane on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

THE OWLS
> Temple is 12-6 overall with a 8-2 record in conference play.
> The Owls have won five in a row and eight out of their last nine.
> On Friday, Temple topped Tulsa, 3-1, and on Sunday, the Owls completed the weekend sweep, defeating SMU, 3-1.

PROMOTIONS
> Temple will hand out student tickets to the Navy football game on November 2, during both matches this weekend.
> Friday's match is the first opportunity for students to get tickets to the game.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Senior Izzy Rapacz leads the team with 3.55 kills per set, also averaging 1.08 blocks per set.
> Redshirt Freshman Dana Westfield contributes 2.61 kills per frame.
> Junior Iva Deak (1.90 kills/set) and senior Janine Simmons (1.78 kills/set) and shore up the middle for the Owls.
> Simmons leads the team with 1.16 blocks per set.
> Senior Kyra Coundourides averages 10.02 assists per set, with that number rising to 11.85 in conference play.
> Junior Mia Heirakuji tops the Owls' defense with 4.09 digs per set. 
> Senior Dara Peric contributes all around with 1.78 kills per set and 2.61 digs per frame.
> As a team, the Owls hit .247, holding opponents to a .185 attack.

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 3, SMU 1 (at Temple; 10/22/17)
> Temple took down two-time defending conference champion SMU, 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-21, 25-12).
> The Owls hit .293 with 67 kills, holding SMU to a .162 attack.
> Four Temple players tallied double-digits in kills in the match - Rapacz (19), Westfield (17), Deak (11), and Papazoglou (10).
> Coundourides dished out 55 assists, while Heirakuji finished with 23 digs.

SCOUTING HOUSTON
> Houston is 8-10 overall with a 4-6 record in conference play.
> The Cougars have won back-to-back matches, topping UCF, 3-1, on Friday, and sweeping USF on Sunday.
> Brianna Lynch leads the Cougars offense with 2.79 kills per set, while Megan Duncan adds 2.61 kills per frame.
> Abby Irvine is the team's top setter, dishing out 6.24 assists per set.
> Sarah Afflerbaugh tallies 2.35 kills and 2.44 digs per set, while Brianna Gardner (2.01 kills/set) rounds out the offense.
> In the back row, Katie Karbo leads the squad with 5.41 digs per set.
> As a team, Houston hits .180, while opponents hit .185 against the Cougars.

> Despite going up 2-0, Temple needed all five sets to top Houston 3-2.
