Men's Soccer Falls to No. 1 Seed SMU in AAC Semfinal, 4-0

DALLAS, Texas - In the American Athletic Conference semifinals on Friday, Temple men's soccer (9-8-1, 4-3) suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 1 seed SMU (14-2-1, 5-1-1) at Westcott Field in Dallas. SMU will advance to the finals after its seventh consecutive shut out.
Keys to the Match
> With less than three minutes into the game, SMU's Emil Cuello scored the first goal of the match.
> In the fourth minute, freshman Darri Sigthorsson was issued a yellow card. Off a free kick, SMU's Bryce Clark found Jordan Cano for the Mustangs' second goal. Increasing the deficit 2-0.
> Sophomore Thibault Candia took a close shot in the 14th minute but the effort was saved by SMU goalkeeper Michael Nelson.Â
> In the 34th minute. Sigthorsson was issued his second card of the night, a red, ejecting him from the game. The Owls played a man down for the rest of the match.
> SMU scored its third goal of the night in the 58th minute courtesy of Ricky Hernandez from Garrett McLaughlin. The goal marked his second of the season.
>The final goal of the evening was scored in the 84th minute by SMU's DJ Williams Jr. Off a pass from Christian Boorom, Williams Jr., beamed the ball into the net from inside of the box.
> Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Samnik made three saves for Temple.
> The Owls held a 5-3 corner kick advantage while SMU led in shots 11-9.
