Another Road Victory for Volleyball

TULSA - The Temple volleyball team rallied for its second five set road victory, topping Tulsa 3-2 (25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 15-10) on Saturday afternoon. Temple moves to 16-8 with the victory, 12-4 in conference play. Tulsa evens its record at 14-14, 8-8 in The American.

KEYS TO THE MATCH
> Temple won the first two sets and led in both the third and fourth, but needed five to seal the win.
> The Owls hit .224 for the match, including .381 in the fifth frame.
> Tulsa got on the board in a tight third set that saw both teams hit over .300.
> Temple had 13 blocks in the match, none bigger than back-to-back stuffs to end the fifth set.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Seniors Izzy Rapacz, Kyra Coundourides, and Dara Peric all notched double-doubles in the match.
> Rapacz set a new career high with 21 digs, topping the 20 she had on Thursday night. She also added 12 kills and seven blocks.
> Coundourides dished out 53 assists with 15 digs and two blocks.
> Peric ended her afternoon with 11 kills and 14 digs.
> Freshman Dana Westfield racked up a team-best 15 kills.
> Junior Iva Deak had 12 kills, hitting .423 with four blocks.
> Senior Janine Simmons tallied six kills with six blocks.
> Freshman Katerina Papazoglou added six kills and five digs.
> Junior Mia Heirakuji had 15 digs and five assists.
> Freshman Averi Salvador added 13 digs.

SET ONE: Temple 25, Tulsa 19
> Tulsa had the momentum early on, opening up an 11-6 lead.
> Out of a timeout, Temple rallied back to take the lead with a 9-2 run.
> Temple extended the lead to 22-17, and after two Tulsa points, the Owls closed out set one.

SET TWO: Temple 25, Tulsa 22
> The second set saw 11 ties and four lead changes.
> The Hurricane led as late as 18-17 before Temple took over for good.
> The Owls finished the set on a 7-2 run to go up, 2-0.

SET THREE: Tulsa 25, Temple 22
> Temple opened the set with a 7-4 lead but Tulsa rallied to tie things at 12-12.
> The set was tied four more times, the latest at 22-22.
> From there, Tulsa scored three straight to cut the match score to 2-1.

SET FOUR: Tulsa 25, Temple 21
> Tulsa held Temple to a .135 attack in the fourth to even the match at 2-2.
> Despite hitting woes, it was the Owls who had the first advantage, 7-4, later going up 15-10.
> Tulsa answered with a 10-5 run that tied things at 20-20.
> Temple scored the next point, but Tulsa closed it out with a 5-0 run to send the match to five.

SET FIVE: Temple 15, Tulsa 10
> Temple hit .381 in the frame to seal the match.
> The teams split the first 16 points setting the score to 8-8.
> Temple broke the tie with three straight points before Tulsa cut it to 12-10.
> From there, Temple got a Deak kill and back-to-back blocks to seal the set and match.
