Wright, Hood Selected for Weekly American Athletic Awards

PHILADELPHIA - The story Friday night in Cincinnati could have been a number of things, ranging from the Temple defense's first-half shut out to the program's second consecutive conference victory. Instead, though, WR Isaiah Wright stole the spotlight behind his miraculous 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, a play that would earn him recognition as the American Athletic Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week. Up just six with the Bearcat offense coming off back-to-back TD drives, the sophomore wideout decided to take matters into his own hands, sprinting untouched for the Owls' first special teams score since 2015 (coincidentally, Jahad Thomas took a kickoff back 100 yards at the same venue two years ago).
To cap the short possession off, head coach Geoff Collins opted for a two-point conversion attempt to boost Temple into a 14-point lead. The ensuing play consisted of Wright taking a reverse towards the left sideline before tossing a strike to QB Frank Nutile, who snuck out of the backfield into the left flat. Offensively, the sophomore also contributed in his usual manner as a wide receiver, catching three balls for 39 yards on the night.
The conference also saw fit to acknowledge RB David Hood on the Weekly Honor Roll, as the redshirt junior racked up a career-best 108 yards for one touchdown on 23 carries, leading Temple to its second 200-yard rushing day of the season. The yardage marked Hood's second career 100-yard rushing day, as he put together 106 yards on the ground earlier this year on the road against ECU.
