Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker in Five at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Temple volleyball team saw its seven match win streak end in heartbreaking fashion, as the Owls fell 3-2 on the road at Memphis. The Tigers won 3-2 (17-25, 25-16, 25-17, 22-25, 15-13) to grab just their second conference win of the season. The Owls fall to 14-7 overall, 10-3 in conference play, while Memphis improves to 9-16 overall, 2-11 in The American.
KEYS TO THE MATCH
> Memphis hit .241, by far its best conference attack of the year.
> Temple hit just .172, the Owls' lowest hitting performance in conference play this season.
> The Owls held advantages in blocks (10-8) and digs (77-69).
> Both teams hit well in the deciding fifth set, but Memphis' .632 attack (13-1-19) closed it out.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Senior Izzy Rapacz tallied a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs.
> Senior Kyra Coundourides also notched a double-double with 45 assists and 13 digs.
> Freshman Katerina Papazoglou finished with eight kills and seven digs.
>Â Redshirt freshman Dana Westfield added seven kills.
> Junior Iva Deak had seven kills, hitting .375, while also adding seven blocks.

SET ONE: Temple 25, Memphis 17
> Temple hit .323 and held Memphis to a .054 attack in set one to cruise.
> The Owls went up 5-2 early and did not trail.
> Iva Deak pushed the Temple advantage to 13-7.
> Memphis closed it to a four-point lead, but Temple again surged.
> A Deak block put Temple up by eight.
> A 5-2 Memphis surge was stopped by Temple, who closed out the frame on a Rapacz kill.

> Memphis led from start to finish in set two to tie the match.
> The Owls fell behind 11-7, but scored three of the next four to make it 12-10.
> The Tigers used a 9-4 run to put the set out of reach at 21-14.
> Memphis closed out the victory with back-to-back kills.

> Again, Memphis led from start to finish, as the Tigers went up, 2-1.
> The hosts opened with a 7-4 advantage.
> The Memphis lead grew to six at 14-8.
> Temple cut the lead to 16-14 with a 6-2 surge.
> Memphis went back up by five, but the Owls rallied to make it 20-17.
> The Tigers then closed out the frame on a 5-0 run.

> Despite hitting just .100 (12-8-40), the Owls won set four to tie things at 2-2.
> Memphis had an early lead but Temple took over with a surge that put them up 10-7.
