Finch, Nutile Tabbed for Weekly Conference Awards
11.6.17 | Football
PHILADELPHIA - Following a solid outing against Navy this past weekend, redshirt senior DE Sharif Finch earned honors as the American Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, a first for his career. Throughout the game, Finch was instrumental in harassing the Navy backfield, accumulating a career-high 3.5 tackles-for-loss along the way. Further, he also racked six solo tackles and three assists, not to mention two sacks, a tie for a career-best.
The redshirt senior led a Temple defensive unit that upended the Midshipmen offense, holding the nation's top ground game to just 136 rushing yards, 240 yards below their previous average on the year. Navy was forced to look to the air for production, which only led to the Owls setting their pass-rushers loose as the team put together 11 TFLs and five sacks on the day.
Meanwhile, QB Frank Nutile and the Temple offense weren't ignored by the conference, as the AAC placed the redshirt junior signal-caller on the Honor Roll for the weekly awards. For the game, Nutile compiled career-bests in nearly every category save for passing yards (of which he came up just two short), as he tossed four touchdowns on 22-of-30 for 289 yards.
