Abdurakhimova Named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In the second installation of the American Athletic Conference's weekly tennis awards, Temple senior Alina Abdurakhimova has been selected as the Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The honor follows a 4-0 singles slate from a packed weekend that began with a defeat of Iowa State's Samantha Budai.

In the dual match that was eventually won by the Owls 4-2, Abdurakhimova took on the 125th ranked Budai and topped the Cyclone standout 6-1, 6-2.

The next two days consisted of three matches in which Abdurakhimova continued to lead the Owls in the number one singles position. She topped Katia Jordan of Morgan State 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 in the Owls' 5-0 sweep of the Bears.

Abdurakhimova went on to grab two more wins against opponents from VCU and Longwood, leading her team to a 3-1 record for the weekend. Overall, the Owls are off to a solid 3-2 start for the 2017 season heading into a weekend of Philadelphia rivalries.

The team will face Villanova on Friday morning and take on Penn Saturday afternoon. Both matches will take place on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
