Brenda McDermott Named BIG EAST Lacrosse Attacker of the Week

NEW YORK - The first BIG EAST Attacker of the Week award of the 2017 season belongs to Temple senior Brenda McDermott after a season-opening win for the Owls (1-0) at Rutgers on Feb. 11. The award is the second all-time for McDermott, who also earned the honor late in the 2016 season.
With a career-tying six points off two goals and four assists, McDermott sparked the Owls to a 13-11 win at longtime region rival Rutgers. She had a hand in four of the five goals in Temple's 5-0 first-half run to gain a 6-2 lead, and the senior added three ground balls, a game-high four draw controls and a caused turnover.
Temple hosts Monmouth in its home opener at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

BIG EAST Midfielder Of The Week
Kendra Lanuza, Denver, So., M
Lanuza facilitated an offense which outscored its opponents 40-22 as the Pioneers open the season 3-0 for the first time in program history. The sophomore started with seven points off three goals and four dishes at San Diego State on Feb. 4, followed by two goals and an assist at California on Feb. 10, before leading Denver to the upset win at No. 12/12 Stanford on Feb. 12 with four goals. For the week she added four ground balls and a trio of draw controls and averaged 3.0 goals, 1.7 assists and 4.7 points per game.

BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The Week
Maddy Stevenson, Denver, Sr., GK
Stevenson posted a 3-0 record in goal with wins at San Diego State, California and No. 12/12 Stanford. The senior increased her saves total in each outing, with five stops against the Aztecs, nine versus the Golden Bears and a career-high 16 against the nationally ranked Cardinal. For the week she earned a .577 save percentage and 7.33 goals against average while facing a total of 63 shots.Â

BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week
Liz Trojan, Villanova, Fr., M
In her collegiate debut against Bucknell, Trojan accounted for half of the Wildcats' goals by posting a hat trick off four total shots, while adding a draw control. The rookie was 1-for-1 on free position shots.Â

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Julie Blaze, Vanderbilt, So., M
Blaze got off to a running start in the Commodores' win over Kennesaw State (Feb. 11), totaling six points off five goals and an assist. Eight of her nine shots were on target while the sophomore added three draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
Allison Lane, Marquette, Jr., M
Lane stuffed the stat sheet against No. 18/RV Louisville with a hat trick, five ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers in the Golden Eagles' narrow setback.
Sydney Pirreca, Florida, So., M
Against reigning national champion and No. 1 North Carolina on Saturday, Pirreca posted three goals off four shots and added a ground ball, draw control and caused turnover.
