Temple Teams With PFD for Unique '5 Alarm Workout'
2.22.17 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple Owls Football team and the Philadelphia Fire Department teamed up today in ways that will help both organizations.
Temple reached out to the Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) to help create a tough, grueling "5 Alarm Workout" for its current student-athletes. As is their nature, the PFD was quick to respond and a partnership was born.
Earlier today at Edberg Olson Hall, Temple University's football practice facility, the PFD under instruction from Deputy Commissioner Anthony Sneidar created a Training Academy 'drilling' Temple Football players in conditioning firefighting drills in the same manner as they do with cadet training classes. Engine 50 and Ladder 12 were also on location as a service request to display their apparatus and equipment and to assist the Training Academy. Watch video.
"The 5 Alarm Workout today was an incredible experience for everyone involved," said Geoff Collins, Temple's head football coach. "We were able to have Philadelphia's Top 25 football program work with some true Local Heroes. These men and women give so much of themselves on a daily basis and having the opportunity to work with them this morning was an honor. I can't thank them enough for adding to our CULTURE of being tough, physical, relentless, and positively affecting each other everyday."
In the near future, Temple football players will be assisting the Fire Prevention Division and local companies with smoke alarm installations in the Temple University community. Both the PFD and Temple University are interested in enhancing their involvement within the North Philadelphia community.
"Temple's success is built on teamwork and physical fitness, and the same is true at the Philadelphia Fire Department," said Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel. "The Owls and the PFD have the hottest teams in town. Anyone interested in joining the Fire Department should check out our website, http://www.phila.gov/fire."
