PHILADELPHIA – In Friday's early-morning play, Temple men's tennis was able to top the Villanova Wildcats. The Owls defeated the Wildcats with a final score of 5-2. Artem Kapshuk and Vineet Naran led the Owls in a big doubles win followed by singles victories from Kapshuk, Thomas Sevel, Florian Mayer, Eric Biscoveanu, and Francisco Bohorquez.
"The guys started out a little slow today but they really got the momentum going", said Coach Mauro. "Artem Kupshuk has been playing some amazing tennis and this was a good win against Villanova who is always a strong opponent. Winning all three doubles flights was great and hopefully we can keep it going."
Uladzimir Dorash and partner Naran grabbed an early win in the first doubles position, topping Wildcat duo Luis Miranda and Will Elmore, 6-2. Mayer and Sevel followed up with a doubles win, defeating Tyler Roth and Stefan Suarez, 7-6 (3). Rounding out the doubles play was Biscoveanu and Filip Stipcic garnering another win for the Owls, 7-6 (4).
In singles play, Kapshuk pulled in a big win in the first position, topping Miranda 6-1, 6-0. Sevel followed with a win in the second position, defeating Suarez 6-3, 6-3. Biscoveanu and Bohorquez also posted wins in the fifth and sixth positions. Dorash and Mayor also saw action in today's single play but both matches ended in losses for the Owls.
The Owls will return to the court next Friday, Feb. 10 for a dual against Fairleigh Dickinson University. The match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Upper Dublin Sports Center.
