Impressive Goalkeeping Leads to Second BIG EAST Award for Lowell
4.18.17 | Women's Lacrosse
NEW YORK - For the second time this season, Temple goalkeeper Maryn Lowell has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. Lowell, a freshman, is 10-1 this season in the cage, and helped the Owls go 2-0 with wins over Butler and Vanderbilt last week.
Senior Carly Demato earned her first conference recognition of the season, being named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Lowell made a career-high 17 saves in Temple's 11-10 win at Vanderbilt to help the Owls clinch a BIG EAST Tournament berth for the second straight year. Her 17-save total is the second-most for any player in the conference this season and broke her previous high by six. In the Owls' other game of the week, a 19-7 win over Butler, she made four saves while allowing just three goals in 30 minutes of action. The rookie earned both wins in the cage and posted a .618 save percentage.
Demato was the clutch player of the week for the Owls, totaling eight goals, two of which were game-winners. The senior notched four goals in each game, with none bigger than the go-ahead score with 64 seconds left at Vanderbilt as Temple erased a three-goal deficit to top the Commodores and clinch a spot in the BIG EAST Championship.
Temple has two games left before the BIG EAST Tournament at Villanova on May 4 and 6. First up for the Owls is a Senior Day home game against #2 Florida on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m.
