Women’s Soccer Announces 2017 Schedule
6.1.17 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – Temple Women's Soccer announced its 2017 schedule with head coach Seamus O'Connor's Owls opening at Fairleigh Dickinson on August 18.
Looking to regain its winning form that saw the program post 23 wins during the 2014 and 2015 campaigns, Temple will play an even nine home and away in matches in its 18-match slate. The Cherry and White will also travel to Hofstra (Aug. 10) and Drexel (Aug. 13) for preseason scrimmages before kicking off the regular season.
"This schedule provides us an opportunity to continue to grow as a team while also preparing us for the difficult American Athletic Conference matches," said O'Connor, now in his fifth season at the helm. "We had a great spring season and worked on developing in areas that will help us find success this fall. The season will be a very exciting one for this young team as they continue to develop their own identity."
Temple hosts city-rival La Salle in its home opener (Aug. 20) before travelling to another city foe. Saint Joseph's (Aug. 25). The Owls then have a three-game homestand featuring matches against Lehigh (Aug. 27), Rider (Aug. 31) and Mount St. Mary's (Sept. 3).
After a week off, the Owls close out their non-conference portion of their schedule with road matches against Towson (Sept. 15) and Central Connecticut State (Sept. 23) sandwiched around a home match against Delaware State (Sept. 17).
East Carolina is the Owls' opening conference foe with the Pirates visiting the Temple Sports Complex on Sept. 28. Temple plays four home and five road AAC contests with Cincinnati (Oct. 1), Houston (Oct. 12) and SMU (Oct. 15) travelling to Philadelphia. The road matches are against Memphis (Oct. 5), Tulsa (Oct. 8), USF (Oct. 19), UCF (Oct. 22) and UConn (Oct. 27).
UConn, Memphis and SMU all competed in the 2016 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.
Eight starters return from the 2016 team led by red-shirt senior Kayla Cunningham and seniors Victoria Dutille, Elana Falcone and Gabriella McKeown.
