Abdurakhimova Named to Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple women's tennis player Alina Abdurakhimova was honored for academic and athletic performance, being named one of six student-athletes on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Tennis Team. The team is nominated and voted on by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. 

Abdurakhimova has been a three-year standout for the Owls, playing at #1 singles. The junior from Tashkent, Uzbekistan has posted 14 or more wins in each of her seasons in cherry and white, compiling 47 career wins in singles and 34 in doubles. This season, Abdurakhimova went 12-6 at the top flight and earned an American Athletic Conference Player of the Week nod in February. The former American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, she is a President's Honor Roll award winner at Temple. 

Joining Abdurakhimova on this year's Academic All-Area Women's Tennis Team was Performer of the Year Maddy Shaak (West Chester), as well as Penn's Kana Daniel, Gwynedd Mercy's Kristen Kriebel, Haverford's Abby Payson and Drexel's Lea Winkler.
