7.18.17 | Football
NEWPORT, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference announced Tuesday morning the results of the 2017 Preseason Media Poll and Temple is projected to finish third in the East Division and six in the conference.
USF paved the way collecting all 30 votes to claim the East Division tittle, while also leading all schools with 26 votes for the overall conference championship.Â
Â
The Owls will start their 2017 season with a brand new head coach in Geoff Collins and a brand new starting quarterback. On the offensive side, the Owls return five starters in Jovahn Fair, Leon Johnson, Keith Kirkwood, Nick Sharga and Adrian Sullivan. Defensively, Temple sees four returning starters with Sean Chandler, Michael Dogbe, Artrel Foster and Delvon Randall.
The Owls are coming off back-to-back 10-win seasons in which they were ranked among the Top 25 in both 2015 and 2016. Temple is one of 13 FBS schools to win 10-or-more games in each of the past two seasons and one of five (Alabama, Clemson, San Diego State, Western Kentucky) to accomplish that feat while also playing in its Conference Championship game in each season.
